New Drug Driving laws
Since 2 March 2015 it has been illegal in England and Wales to drive when over specified limits for certain controlled drugs. As well as very low specified limits for illegal drugs such as cannabis and cocaine, there are also limits for certain prescription drugs.
The limits for prescription drugs are set at a level that is higher than expected for normal therapeutic purposes. It is illegal to drive at any time when ‘unfit’ due to drugs, whether or not the level in a person’s blood stream is within the specified limit. Employers should review their driving at work policies to ensure that they are in line with the new law.
